I was all jazzed about going up the mountain with a group and snowboarding all Saturday then renting a cabin and staying up there to come back on Sunday... but it didn't happen after all (the cabin part I mean). So instead, Ever, Raquel, and I ended up going up to Ski Cooper up in Leadville, CO to snowboard on Saturday. It was actually a pretty good day-trip. The lines for the lift weren't as backed up as Keystone, and the slopes were alright. It wasn't half as crowded as the ski resorts closer to I-70. The road up there and back was very picturesque. Here are some of the shots of the day. I decided to take my camera and my sling bag with me on the runs down the slopes and record some images coming down and also some video. It takes some practice to snowboard while filming video with a DSLR camera. I'll post some of the videos later. As we were coming back down, we got the golden dawn light which lent for some awesome deep blues and magenta colors in the sky. So we had a blast and here is the proof... hope you enjoy the pics... and if you do, don't be shy and make sure you "like" it on fb after you comment below.
I had to come back to Colorado eventually and was looking forward to getting back home, but it was harder than I thought. It's the first time in a while that I had spent 2 whole months with all my family, so breaking away from that was difficult. So now, I don't have the noise of my sister Vero getting ready for work in the morning or knocking on the door to drop off a breakfast burrito, or my lil sister Suzy, coming over for her lunch break and giving me the latest chismes from the viejitos where she works at, or my brother Gabriel showing up after work to take me to the gym and forcing me to work out, or my bro-in-law Emilio getting home from work and appreciating my bbq culinary skillz, or my mom showing up and makin some of her awesome lentil soup or delicious calabazitas con queso, or going over to my moms place and lounging with my pops n mom in the living room... nope, none of that anymore. Just me and my lil apartment now.... AAHHWWWW... I miss you guys!!! This is when they dropped me off at the airport in San Diego.
So here are some of the other pixs from my last full day in So-Cal. My brother and I, with some other friends hit the waves for a while. Gabe was whoopin those waves. After surfing, we built a bonfire in a shallow sand pit (I think Ramitos or Ozzie dug it out), and Danny got busy on the carne asada on his JUMBO, MAN-GRILL. The carne asada was from a world famous Imperial Valley butcher shop known for it's tender, juicy, fresh, tasty arrachera (flap meat). If you want it any fresher than that, you would have to choose your own cow like Red Lobster. Then my buddies from Murrieta showed up right when the food started sizzling and the fire started roaring. AHHH, It was an awesome beach day. I had been wanting to go to the beach before I came back to Denver and this really took care of that itch. Just wish Vero n Milio could've gone too... Read the captions on some of the pix. I'll add more notes later... I promise...
So after you guys finish with all the seal jokes, you will be able to appreciate the fact that, while it's dumping snow in other parts of the country... people are still out surfing in So-Cal. It was awesome. We had some nice waves out in La Jolla Shores, not too big for a beginner like me, but pretty exciting non-the-less. The weather was great and the 3 ml. wetsuits kept us warm in the cold Pacific ocean. Planning on heading back there in the summer. COWABUNGA!!! After surfing, we did an awesome carne asada and a bonfire in the beach. I'll post some more beach pictures later...
_So my favorite all-time favorite food is, by far, chile rellenos. I love these, especially the ones filled with cheese and home-made from scratch. The restaurant ones are usually less fresh. So my sister didnt go to work today, and during my morning shift, I started smelling that distinctive smell of the tasty pasilla chiles being roasted on open fire, and the smell of the tomato and jalapeno salsa cooking... WHOHOHOHOHO!!! I finish a long call I had right before my lunch break, tore off my headset, and ran to the kitchen... and this awaited me... I might get the recipe from Vero and post it later...
It was in the middle of the week, on a Wednesday to be exact. We were in the mood for something exotic.. something different... something je ne sais quoi... so we went to McDonalds!... But they were out of chix mcnuggets, so we went to another place in Calexico. We drove out to this place near the Calexico airport called "Rosa's Plane Food" with this awesome ceviche. Thats actually all we ate there... bowls of ceviche for everyone. MAAANNN it was GOOOD!!! They make the tostadas fresh when you order the ceviche and they give you all the fresh salsa, lemons, and other fixins you'll need for a great ceviche experience. So it was Gabriel, Emilio, Vero, Nomee, and I. Cant wait to go back in a few months for some more...
That's what my brother asked me when he called me yesterday. I was like, "Whuaaaaa?" So he came over and and he had this cute little duck he had "obtained" "somewhere" to show me. Some verbs and nouns have been changed to protect Gabriel; *D'OH*; I mean, the guilty. Anyway, the duck was stinkin cute and cuddly. He was very docile for a wild animal, but then again, so are some of my friends.
So since I arrived with my sister a couple of weeks ago, I saw this single cup coffee brewer in her counter. Even though I brew a whole pot of coffee every morning at my place, I was a little skeptical about this new contraption. It didnt help that my monkey fingers couldnt get the hang of it's single button push operation (hey, it's harder than you think, OK!) But once I got the hang of it, ahhhhhh, it's great. It brews a fresh single cup of coffee in a few SECONDS! So you always have a hot fresh brewed cup of joe instead of a pot of coffee sitting there all day. So my sister gets home the other day and guess what, she got me my very own mini Keurig Brewer... woohoooooo!!! So it's still in the box as you can see, but I'm gonna take it with me when I head back home to Denver. It's gonna be great to replace my old coffee pot in the kitchen counter. Once again, I'm a little behind on this post. This was back in the last week of November. The program, even though a repeat for me, was awesome. I had the chance to see all the friends from my old circuit again. Basilio and Brandon and I went on Saturday. We went out to dinner on Saturday to a great fish-house with the crazy Murrieta bunch in the evening. On Sunday morning, we woke up at 3 am to take Basilio back to San Diego to catch his 6 am flight to Denver. Then we made it back to Murrieta for some awesome bagels at Bagel City before heading out to Mira Loma for the Sunday assembly program. Here are some of the pics, I'll try to include some comments on them later...
